his annual event takes place this year from Friday 6 July to Sunday 15 July 2018 at venues across Hucknall, Newark and Southwell.
A key event this year is the Byron Festival Concert, which takes place in St Mary Magdalene Church in Newark Marketpace on Saturday 7 July, start time 7.30pm. It will include Juvenes Cantores della Cattedrale di Sarzana – the Cathedral choir of Sarzana, the Italian town twinned with Southwell, once home to Lord Byron. Also at the event will be the Church Choir, the Bingham Choral Society, the Newstead Abbey Singers and the Newstead Brass band.
A special piece of music, based on Byron’s poems during the time he was in Venice, has been commissioned and composed by Mr Guy Turner, which will be performed as a finale by all the assembled band and choirs. Tickets to the concert are available at the National Civil War Centre.
